Market Open During Construction

OpenDuringConstruction 01 330x222

If you have been through the Market East neighborhood recently, you might have noticed that there is scaffolding on the 12th Street side of the Market (and a little on Arch Street and Filbert Street as well).  The convention center has begun the arduous process of replacing the roof from the Reading Terminal Headhouse on Market Street all the way to the Race Street side of the convention center (and include the Market's roof).  The target date of completion is November 2017.

The good news is that the Market will remain open as usual throughout the construction (all 10 sets of doors are still accessible).  So, please come shop and dine as usual!

Spataro's Cheesesteaks

Just look for the Liberty Bell in red neon and you’ll find Spataro’s. Under the glow of that Philadelphia icon you’ll find another: a Philadelphia cheese steak. Come lunchtime, Spataro’s sizzles theirs up the classic way on a flat-topped griddle, wit or wit-out onions, offering the classic cheese choices—American, provolone, or Whiz— and the option to add peppers or mushrooms, if you like. Besides cheese steaks, they also have a selection of sandwiches and hoagies, including classic favorites like corned beef, roasted turkey, and tuna salad. Or, opt instead for an Italian hoagie or sandwich with capocollo and Genoa salami. Don’t forget to ask for a shake of oregano and some sweet or hot pickled peppers to eat alongside. Though Spataro’s will make you a cheese steak at any time of day, their egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches, which they serve until 11:00 each morning, might just make for a new favorite Philly sandwich with real Taylor Pork Roll.
