Reading Terminal Market to Hold Its First-Ever Italian Festival

Visitors to Reading Terminal Market won’t have to leave
Philadelphia to enjoy a taste of Italy on *Saturday, April 24,
2010* thanks to the Market’s first-ever Italian Festival.
A dozen of the Market’s merchants will work from tables in Center
Court to prepare and serve sample-sized portions of more than 20
much-loved Italian specialties, while strolling Italian musicians
provide entertainment. At 2pm, members from the Opera Company of Philadelphia will be on hand to share the passion of Italian opera, including its upcoming production of Verdi’s romantic opera La traviata, which opens at the Academy of Music on May 7.
The menu includes:
· Salsiccia con scaloppini (sausage scaloppini), from Giunta’s
Prime Shop, which originated in the 1900s at the 9th Street
Italian Market;
· Termini Brothers Bakery’s famous cannolis;
· Make-your-own mini pizza for kids from By George Pizza and
Pasta;
· Prosciutto e melone (proscuitto-wrapped melon), broccoli rabe
crostini (sautéed broccoli rabe on toast) and bruschetta from
Iovine Brothers Produce;
· Wine tasting with Italian wine importer Pio Imports;
· Porchetta (a whole roasted pig) and a live pasta-making
demonstration by Anna Florio of La Cucina at the Market;
· And much much more!
