Down Home Diner to Get a Makeover

The Down Home Diner has been a fixture in the Market for 23 years, occupying a couple of different locations in the Market during its long history. After opening in the space now occupied by Amy’s Place in March 1987, the Diner has been in its current location on the Filbert Street side of the Market for 15 years. Founder and Executive Chef Jack McDavid, who early in his career worked under George Perrier at Le Bec Fin and later starred in the Food Network’s â“Grillin’ & Chillin with Bobby Flay,â” decided it was time for the Down Home Diner to get a makeover. Construction on the new Diner is now underway. When it is finished next month it will feature a new expanded kitchen, a sparkling new dining room, showcases offering house made treats including sticky buns and fruit pies, and its own restroom. In addition, upon re-opening, Jack plans to keep the Diner open later into the evening for dinner. The Diner will be closed for construction until about mid-September; stay tuned for their re-opening announcement! The Down Home Diner and Reading Terminal Market appreciate your patience while the Diner is closed and look forward to serving you again soon when it reopens. Save the Farm!
