Reading Terminal Market Customers Show Support for Damaged Washington, DC Market
Early on Monday morning, April 30th, Washington, DC’s 134 year-old Eastern Market suffered a devastating fire that destroyed the roof of the historic South Hall and shut down operations. All 14 food vendors, each of them small, independent merchants like those here at Reading Terminal Market, were suddenly put out of business. While the city vows to rebuild the market, it will take at least 18-24 months.
During the month of May, all contributions made to Philbert the Pig, the bronze sculpture at the Reading Terminal Market, were dedicated to a fund for Eastern Market merchants created by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation in Washington, DC. The total amount collected and sent to the fund was $1087.00
