Help Reading Terminal Market Go GREEN!
Posted Nov 14th 2007, 10:12
Beginning Friday, November 9th, 2007 the Reading Terminal Market merchants and customers will begin recycling aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles, newspapers and plastic grocery bags.
There will be separate recycling containers for each recyclable item situated throughout the Market. **Plastic bags are collected by Goodwill Industries to be recycled into composite plastic lumber. **Aluminum cans are melted down and turned into new aluminum cans. **Plastic bottles are used in the carpeting and clothing industries. **Glass bottles are used in applications including erosion control, custom asphalt blends, and reduced weight concrete mixes. **Newspapers are re-used to produce new printed paper products including newspapers.
WHAT ELSE DOES THE MARKET RECYCLE? The Market currently recycles (1) cardboard shipping containers, (2) food waste into feed for a New Jersey pig farmer, and (3) cooking oil into animal feed and beauty supplies.
Reading Terminal Market is committed to reducing its environmental impact and we hope that our customers are too
